A faulty battery isn’t going to help but is very unlikely to be the root cause of the specific symptoms listed above. Unfortunately, Jaguar don’t see it that way and if you want a new TPS you’ll have to buy a new Throttle Body (£1200 apparently but I never even bothered to ask) :|įirst, ignore well meaning individuals who try to tell you that it’s your battery that’s at fault. According to a few people I’ve spoken to, potentiometer based TP Sensors are usually classed as service items with a life span approximately twice that of spark plugs. The second reason (which may be related to the 1st) is that your TPS has finally died. Was it raining heavily when the fault occurred, or just before? Jag Engineers did an unbelievable job of designing the water management system under the windscreen so that it dumps about 50% of any rain that falls on the screen directly into the back of the TPS connector! This leads to shorting of the pins and corrosion which in turn affect the signals sent by the TPS to the ECU. The first, most common and least serious is water getting into the connector that plugs into the throttle position sensor. There seem to be two reasons for this failure….

You are also left with DTC Code P0121 Throttle Position Sensor or other TPS related codes Usually, switching the engine off for a couple of minutes is enough to resolve the problem and you’re on your way again. The engine keeps running but has absolutely no power and the revs will go no higher than 2k and no lower than 1k. Suddenly your dash lights up with red and amber warning lights and three messages start to scroll through your info screen “DSC Not Available”, “Engine Systems Fault” and “Parking Brake Fault”.
You are driving normally and lift your foot off the gas to slow down.
